Outokumpu's Lena Wegrelius estimates that a large pulp and paper complex will use 10,000 tons of stainless steel to build.The sulfated fiber digester and the washing and sieving processes use closed systems to reduce pollution emissions, which enhances the corrosiveness of the production environment. Therefore, the use of non-alloy steel to stainless steel (316L or duplex steel is preferred, followed by 304L or 316L) is best.
Another place where austenitic stainless steel or duplex stainless steel is used instead of carbon steel is a chemical liquid storage tank for chemical recovery, where more maintenance is required due to corrosion.

The pulp and paper industry is a huge consumer of stainless steel. At present, all evaporators, fading towers, sludge digesters, storage tanks and other auxiliary equipment are made of duplex stainless steel. The characteristics of duplex stainless steel materials make it the prime material choice, such as its abrasion resistance and overall good fatigue performance.
